“A healing balm for the soul! This book is for anyone who has ever gone through difficult times or felt fear, uncertainty, chaos, or division. A timely memoir that outlines the power and joy of personal transformation. Shannon McGuire wields words like a sword for the good of all people.” —Katherine G. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“This book was written like a conversation. It was fun to get an inside glimpse of Shannon's life, like you were sitting down for a chat. She made it easy to identify with the same thoughts and feelings I have had, to know that I am not alone. I would recommend this to anyone.” —Kristy G. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“Shannon's story is honest. It provided me space to be reflective and inquisitive of my own story and the stories of others. One of the thoughts that resonated most with me is, "To be the best version of me, I had to let go of the beliefs that didn't serve me. I had to let go of the stories about what other people did to me and consider the stories of what the relationship meant to me. I had to let go of my one-sided storytelling and learn to listen to other perspectives. I had to let go of blaming others and myself. I had to start anew. To (M)others from the Hood" is challenging me to let go and start anew.” —C.S. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“This book helped me become aware of my own victimhood mindset. It led me to a journey of understanding and the process of forgiveness. I had several ah ha moments that will forever impact my life. I am in the process of practicing kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.” —C.F. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“Shannon McGuire's" To (M)others from the Hood" vividly recalls a challenging childhood and young adulthood. The challenges, instead of defeating her, become her source of life changing inspiration and empowerment. Shannon changed her life's narrative through a strong belief in being positive. A wonderful read with real life perspective.” —B.K. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

"There's a lot to love in this book: compelling stories, valuable lessons, and sound advice. I'm a huge fan of the memoir genre, so I particularly appreciated Shannon's personal narrative. I love learning about "what happened" in a person's life and how that person reacted, moved forward, and grew as a consequence of their experiences. This book is jam-packed with that sort of memoir goodness. Shannon is also an incisive firecracker of a human being, so it's delightfully entertaining to be in her company and for the duration of her book. And if you're looking for helpful strategies for your own life—ways to end problematic old behaviors, reframe your perspective, and generally enjoy yourself more—Shannon's got you covered with this book. You'll find plenty of memorable, actionable wisdom in here. Two thumbs up and a flurry of applause for To (M)others from the Hood!" —Sara R. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“This book is part memoir, part self-help (two of my favorite genres). The author gives a powerful reflection on her life events, many of which are very difficult, and how she has moved through them to where she is now. She reflects on how the state of victimhood (which she says is the most difficult 'hood) kept her from achieving her big dreams and how she got out of victimhood to start living her best life. This book is great for moms, but also for other people who are in caretaker roles. It is great for anyone who has been through tough times and finds it difficult sometimes to deal with all that life throws at you. Throughout her story, the author embeds valuable nuggets of wisdom that make the learning she presents applicable to whatever the reader may be dealing with, even if their story is different from that in the memoir. The story is accompanied by excellent illustrations that make you think even deeper about the messages conveyed in writing. These illustrations draw from some of the metaphors in the stories to emphasize key points and add a visual component that really makes the book so much more beautiful. I loved it so much that I now belong to the SupreME Moms (the author's company focused on helping mothers and other caretakers through life's difficult moments) YOUniverse platform. Highly recommend!” —Jess S. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

“I love that Shannon allows us readers to read about her life experience living in the worst neighborhood in Los Angeles, poverty, riots, violence etc., or such as VictimHood. The journey that Shannon has gone through gives me courage to live again. Recovery from VictimHood is not an easy place to recover from. I appreciate how she was very truthful of her mistakes and her process of healing to live a better life now. I highly recommend this book for those who are struggling to heal from the past and you can still change your future.. This gives me a piece of mind that I am not alone in this journey as well.” —Flor. J ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
